International Day of the Girl
About the International Day of the Girl
International Day of the Girl Child is marked every year on 11 October. The day focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face, promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.
As the world’s largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women, we celebrate International Day of the Girl Child to amplify the message that girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life during their formative years and as they mature into women.
Every year, to mark International Day of the Girl Child, we recognise the importance of girls' voices through projects and activities that help consult and listen to the voices of girls and young women in our global Movement.
International Day of the Girl 2023
This year, WAGGGS is using International Day of the Girl celebrations to help girls develop the resilience needed to face the pressures and challenges of growing up in a changing world.
With resilience, we can develop the confidence to be brave, to innovate, and can truly feel prepared to lead change in our communities. This IDG we're creating a brave space where girls can feel #PreparedToChangeTheWorld!

#GirlsSpeakUp - International Day of the Girl 2022
For many adults in our Movement, the idea of facilitating a youth consultation may seem daunting. We hope that by following the steps laid out in this #GirlsSpeakUp activity pack, you will discover how simple (and rewarding) it is to consult your Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in a way that is Relevant, Exciting, Accessible and Learner-led (R.E.A.L). #ListenToGirls Consultation Report
We are delighted to announce the release of the International Day of the Girl report for the #ListenToGirls consultation, which highlights valuable insights and perspectives shared by girls and young women about the Girl Guide and Girl Scout Movement. The report presents key findings from the consultation, including how Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting makes them feel, what they have learned, what they would like to learn, and what topics they would like to explore further. It also includes an analysis of the responses received, highlighting the common themes and issues raised by participants.
We believe that this report will be of significant value to all Member Organisations, as it provides a unique insight into the experiences and perspectives of girls and young women. We encourage you to review it and use its findings to inform your work in empowering and supporting girls and young women across WAGGGS.
