The Asia Pacific Young Young Women in Governance (YWIG) Network is a year-long “taster” programme for young women (YW) in the Asia Pacific Region (AP Region) to learn about governance, develop related skills and have a support network with other like-minded young women.
The programme aims to:
- allow young women to learn about governance and have the chance to experience governance in a supported environment;
- introduce participants to governance within WAGGGS and some of the skills that they can further develop.
Each Member Organisation in the AP Region were invited to nominate young women to participate in the following groups:
- Group of YW interested in Governance
- Group of YW already in Governance
As part of the pilot programme, the nominated young women from both groups have been invited to attend a four-day in-person YWIG Workshop in Maldives (31 August 2024 to 5 September 2024). The workshop was designed by the Asia Pacific Regional Young Women in Governance Sub-Committee, realising a "young women for young women" spirit. The event provides an opportunity for participants from Network to meet their fellow participants in person, further their understanding of Governance and to create a regional declaration on how MOs can ensure that the voices of girls and young women are heard on governance issues.
