About the International Day of the Girl

International Day of the Girl Child is marked every year on 11 October. The day focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face, promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.

As the world’s largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women, we celebrate International Day of the Girl Child to amplify the message that girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life during their formative years and as they mature into women.

Every year, to mark International Day of the Girl Child, we recognise the importance of girls' voices through projects and activities that help consult and listen to the voices of girls and young women in our global Movement.
