The Sustainability Grant supports programmes and projects that strengthen gender equality and women’s empowerment across Fiji through long-term and sustainable initiatives.
The grant focuses on enhancing gender equality, supporting women’s empowerment, strengthening women-led organisations and networks, reaching remote, rural, and marginalised communities, promoting inclusion and diversity, supporting capacity development, improving financial management, encouraging monitoring and evaluation practices, and advancing women-focused projects and programmes. The funding is available for core operational costs, long-term activities, training, travel, staffing, communications, and visibility activities.
The Sustainability Grant offers funding of up to FJD 150,000 per year for both registered and unregistered organisations. The programme is designed to support a broad range of women’s groups, including small and emerging grassroots networks, rural and remote-based organisations, and established women-led entities with previous donor funding experience. The scope and timeline of projects are determined by the intended short-term and long-term outcomes of the proposed initiatives.
Applicants are required to first submit a proposal form along with supporting documents either through email or by hand delivery to the Women’s Fund Fiji office in Suva. Proposal forms must include detailed information about the proposed project, including crosscutting themes, financial management systems, work plans, budgets, monitoring and evaluation strategies, and capacity development requirements. Support for developing full proposals is available from the Fund when needed.
Following submission, proposals undergo an initial verification and due diligence process conducted by the Fund team. Eligible proposals are then reviewed by the Grants Committee, which assesses each submission against the established criteria and assigns scores before making approval decisions.
To be eligible, applicants must be women-led and governed organisations or networks with women holding the majority of leadership and financial control positions. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment and should have experience working with remote, rural, or marginalised groups. Organisations must also show openness to working with diverse communities regardless of ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Groups should have been operating for at least one year and must identify themselves as women’s organisations, groups, or networks.
Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to manage funding directly or through a third-party arrangement. Direct grant recipients are required to maintain an independent bank account controlled by women. Organisations should also be willing to participate in training and evaluation activities related to the grant programme. Consideration may also be given to organisations that are not exclusively focused on gender equality but implement projects specifically benefiting women.
