The Daiwa Foundation Small Grants from the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation provide project grants to individuals and organisations in the United Kingdom or Japan for initiatives that promote interaction between the two countries, including exchanges, research travel, conferences, exhibitions and other activities.
Projects may cover any field of activity, with eligible formats including educational and grassroots exchanges, research travel, conferences, exhibitions, and other projects or events.
New initiatives are especially encouraged. The Foundation welcomes applications that foster gender equality or contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, while continuing or regularly recurring events are unlikely to be funded unless there is a strong reason or a special occasion.
Grants range from GBP 2,000 to GBP 9,000, with successful applications typically receiving GBP 3,000 to GBP 4,000. The Foundation can award GBP 1,200 per flight requested and support subsistence costs at GBP 100 per person per day for accommodation and daily living allowances. Funding is intended as a contribution and rarely covers a project budget in full; a separate GBP 50 contribution is made for each supported United Kingdom -Japan flight towards environmental projects in Japan.
Individuals, societies, associations, and other bodies in the United Kingdom or Japan may apply.
Funding cannot be used for general appeals; capital expenditure, including building refurbishment or equipment acquisition; consumables; school, college, or university fees; research or study by an individual student; salary costs or professional fees; commissions for works of art; retrospective grants; replacement of statutory funding; or commercial activities.
