Since 2023, WAGGGS has been working with Johnson & Johnson on a number of exciting STEM projects and opportunities (read more about how the partnership started and how it has evolved here).
It its current phase the partnership is delivering engaging, hands-on STEM experiences at all five of the WAGGGS World Centres.
- Our Chalet (Switzerland)
- Nuestra Cabaña (Mexico)
- Sangam (India)
- Pax Lodge (UK)
- Kusafiri (Ghana)
The World Centres “Discovering STEM” programme is designed to foster an interest in STEM by providing accessible and engaging opportunities to explore scientific and technological concepts.
Activities vary across each centre, and include:
- STEM Tasters: These introductory sessions offer accessible, beginner-friendly STEM experiences. Each session is designed to ignite interest and allow girls to explore a specific topic or challenge in a supportive and interactive environment.
- Deep-Dive Workshops: For those ready to go beyond the basics, these workshops offer a deeper exploration of STEM fields, expanding upon introductory topics and including hands-on activities.
- STEM Explorer Challenge Badge: This self-guided challenge is designed to encourage participants to engage with real-world STEM issues, fostering problem-solving skills and teamwork. Girls can work in small groups to tackle a STEM challenge relevant to their local community.
This all takes place within the unique local context of each World Centre. At Our Chalet, that might mean learning about the importance of STEM to the environment outdoors in the setting of the Swiss mountains. At Sangam it might be discovering the science of making chai.
