Ghana Girl Guides Association

Maasilina attended Getting Ready for Governance ahead of the WAGGGS World Conference in Cyprus 2023.

Maasilina and a friend at the event in 2023“What I remember most about the Getting Ready for Governance event was making new friends and bonding with young women from different countries and regions of WAGGGS.

"The event helped me understand what governance in WAGGGS means and how young people can be actively involved in the World Conference and WAGGGS governance.

"The event helped me to understand that WAGGGS is for everyone – young people can be influential in WAGGGS and its decisions.

"Personally, the event enabled me to put myself out there, learn from others and teach others what is being done in my Member Organisation.

"The experience has influenced my leadership journey positively. I now have the confidence to take initiative and stand for leadership positions in every organisation or society I find myself in.

"I am currently the Student Council President in my university and the Team Lead for the Organising Committee for the Rangers and Cadet group of the Ghana Girl Guides Association. I am also on the Health and Safety Committee of NASGGA 2026.

"I would encourage any young woman with the opportunity to attend the event next year to put herself out there and be ready to learn and share. She should be ready to represent her Membership Organisation and take up leadership roles.

"The event has helped in shaping me to be the leader who listens and consider the needs of others. Thank you to everyone who supported the event to make this life-changing experience possible for me.”

Maasilina took part in Getting Ready for World Conference, the programme at the heart of our Light the Future campaign. Her story is one of many — and with your support, we can ensure more young women like Maasilina are ready to lead at the 2026 World Conference and beyond.
