The United Nations Development Programme is inviting registered Civil Society Organizations in Uganda to apply for Low Value Grants supporting innovative, community-driven initiatives that prevent and respond to gender-based violence, strengthen access to justice, promote positive social norms, and empower women, girls, and vulnerable populations across selected districts.
The Low Value Grants for CSOs under the Gender for Development Uganda (G4DU) Programme are part of the EU-UN Global Spotlight Initiative 2.0, aiming to address persistent challenges related to gender-based violence, access to justice, and the empowerment of women, girls, and vulnerable groups in Uganda. The programme is designed to foster innovative, community-driven interventions that can create sustainable change at the grassroots level, particularly in districts with high prevalence of GBV and related vulnerabilities.
The grants are structured into six distinct lots, each targeting specific thematic areas such as the establishment of community and youth safe spaces, support for community- and youth-led GBV prevention and environmental action, male engagement for girls' education and prevention of child marriage, provision of legal aid and access to justice for GBV survivors and victims of trafficking, vocational and technical skills training for out-of-school youth, and digital skills and safe online engagement for adolescents and young people. Each lot specifies its own objectives, scope of work, and expected results, with grant values ranging from $30,000 to $84,808 depending on the lot and intervention scale.
- Grant Lot 1: Establishment and Operationalization of Community and Youth Safe Spaces in Kitgum, Tororo, Yumbe, Kampala, Kasese districts ($60,000)
- Grant Lot 2: Support Community-led and Youth-led initiatives for GBV Prevention, Social Norms Change and Environmental Action in Kampala, Otuke, Nebbi, Kasese, Lamwo, Terego, Kitgum districts ($84,808)
- Grant Lot 3: Male Engagement for Girls' Education and Economic Empowerment in Amudat District- $30,000
- Grant Lot 4: Provision of Legal Aid, Access to Justice and Protection Services in Border districts- Tororo, Amudat, Arua ($30,000)
- Grant Lot 5. Provision of vocational and technical skills for out of school youth in Kampala- ($60,000 to 2-3 institutions)
- Grant Lot 6: Digital Skills and equipment for out of school youth in Kampala, Gulu $50,000)
Eligible applicants include legally registered Civil Society Organizations, National NGOs, Women's Rights Organizations, Community-Based Organizations, Faith-Based Organizations, and other not-for-profit entities operating in Uganda. Applicants must demonstrate at least three years of relevant experience in gender equality, GBV prevention and response, child protection, SRHR, youth empowerment, digital innovation, or related social development fields, as well as experience working with government and community stakeholders. Additional technical experience is required for each grant lot, such as experience in legal aid, vocational training, or digital skills development, depending on the focus area.
Applications must be submitted separately for each grant lot, with clear demonstration of technical, operational, and financial capacity to implement the proposed interventions. The grants will be implemented in selected Spotlight Initiative districts, including but not limited to Amudat, Lamwo, Kitgum, Omoro, Kasese, Tororo, Kampala, Gulu, Madi-Okolo, Terego, and Nebbi, with target beneficiaries including out-of-school youth, adolescent girls and young women, adolescent boys and young men, women and men in select communities, and other vulnerable groups.
