🦺What have WAGGGS done to seek safety assurances?

WAGGGS’ highest priority is the safety and wellbeing of our MOs, volunteers and staff. In light of the recent border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, we took additional time to consult with our colleagues in Cambodia, as well as local and governmental authorities, to obtain the necessary assurances to proceed.

We were encouraged by the positive responses and information shared by embassies in Cambodia, which confirmed that the conflict was restricted to the border region and that, at no time, were commercial flights to or from Siem Reap cancelled. This additional time enabled us to put appropriate mitigations in place, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all participants.

In November 2025, the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advised against all but essential travel to areas within 80 km of the Thailand border. This advisory did not include Siem Reap city.

As of 2 February 2026, the FCDO advice has been revised and now applies only to areas within 20 km of the land border with Thailand.

For clarity, Siem Reap is approximately 190 km from the Thailand border, and Siem Reap International Airport is around 180 km from the border.
