🗂️ How can I identify funders to research?

Campfire Team • 3 Juillet 2023

You can use search engines to identify potential funders. Most funders will label their funding opportunities or strategies with themes and location, which makes it fairly straightforward to search for potential funding.

⌨️ Try googling ‘Funding for + [key words] + [your location].

🔑 Suggested key words are below:

📍Education
📍Girls' education
📍Non-formal education
📍Youth
📍Skills development
📍Gender
📍Female empowerment
📍Life skills
📍Leadership development
📍Female leadership development
📍Training
📍Community development
📍Community groups
📍Movement building
📍Feminist funding
📍Gender equality
📍Girl-led
📍Advocacy
📍Global citizenship
📍Global competence

If you are doing a project on something specific, such as climate change or gender-based violence, make sure to search by these terms as well.

We want to apply for EU funding but it seems complicated. What do we need to consider?
There are some general rules to most EU funding opportunities. Be sure to critically and honestly answer the following questions before applying:

❓Does our association meet all the legal conditions?
❓Is the Board of our association strong and functional?
❓Does our association have an accountant/treasurer?
❓Has our association produced annual reports (financial as well as activity)?
❓Has our association run projects with a budget close to the amount to be requested for this project? If not, can I prove that our association has the ability to administer large amounts of money?
❓ Has our association got relevant experience in the area the project is concerned with? If not, do any of the people involved in the project have specific expertise in that field?
❓What kind of links do we have with public authorities/institutions (local and central)?

In addition, very often EU funding programmes are open to partnerships of charities and public authorities (local or central). It can be very helpful to develop contacts with relevant public authorities to find out their priorities in the field of your activities and to get their recognition as a reliable partner. It may be easier to get a successful result with a joint proposal.
