OB-PS Newsletter August 2026

Catherine Harris • 24 Août 2026

Introduction

I’m still thinking about Cambodia.

There are some moments in our Movement that stay with you long after the bags are unpacked and the conference badges are put away. For me, our experience in Siem Reap was one of those moments. Being together with so many members, supporters, volunteers, girls and young women—and seeing firsthand what our collective generosity makes possible—was both inspiring and deeply personal. I came home reminded, once again, that what we do matters. I am already looking ahead to our next OB-PS Event in South Africa, where we can again celebrate your impact.

In this newsletter, you’ll find that there is so much happening across our Movement—and plenty of reasons to be inspired! From coming together for Giving Day on 7–8 October and celebrating International Day of the Girl, to discovering the unique experience of visiting Our Chalet in the Swiss Alps, there are plenty of ways to connect with and support our global Movement.

Alongside these exciting events, Project 100 continues to gather momentum. Because of you, new members are joining us, supporters are reaching new Recognition Levels, and people who may never have previously supported WAGGGS are finding their way into our community. Every one of those numbers represents a person who has decided that the future of girls and young women is worth investing in.

Whether you’ve joined us at an event, supported our fundraising, welcomed a new member, or simply continued to champion WAGGGS, you are an important part of this Movement. Your enthusiasm, generosity, and commitment help create more opportunities for girls and young women around the world. I’m grateful for all that we are accomplishing together—and I hope you’ll keep reading, celebrating our progress, and finding your own opportunities to see, care and act.

We hope you enjoy catching up on what’s been happening, and finding out what’s still to come!

Yours in Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting,

Kaela Sáenz Oriti

President of the Olave Baden-Powell Society

World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts

WAGGGS Giving Day: Save the Date

On 7–8 October, the WAGGGS Movement will come together for 36 hours of celebration, connection and giving in support of girls and young women around the world.

This year, Giving Day celebrates International Day of the Girl with the theme You Give, for Her World, a reminder that every gift can help girls shape a better future.

Last year, with your support WAGGGS raised over £150,000. This year, let’s make it our biggest Giving Day yet! Look out for more information on how you can get involved, coming soon. Learn about how previous giving days have helped shape the Movement.

Save the Date: 20-23 October 2027, Cape Town South Africa

There’s something special about an OB-PS Event. It brings together people from around the world who share a passion for Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting, while giving us the chance to experience the Movement in a new country and culture. In October 2027, we’re heading to Cape Town, South Africa, and we’d love for you to be part of it! Whether you’re a seasoned OB-PS Event attendee or thinking about joining us for the first time, Cape Town will be a wonderful opportunity to connect, learn, explore and celebrate our global Movement together. More details will be coming soon!

Project 100

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in Project 100 to date. So far, we have welcomed 94 new OB-PS members, celebrated 39 members reaching a new Recognition Level, and inspired 374 new donors to WAGGGS. These fantastic results reflect the incredible support and enthusiasm of our community and demonstrate the difference we can make together. Thank you for being part of Project 100 and for helping to grow and strengthen our Movement.

There’s something special coming for those who choose to support WAGGGS each and every year throughout Project 100. Look out for more details soon about a new way to celebrate your commitment across our three-year centenary journey!

Memories and Milestones 2026

Would you like to spend a week exploring some of Switzerland’s top tourist attractions, meeting new friends from around the world, and sharing your World Centre or WAGGGS story?

The new memories and milestones event taking place at Our Chalet in Switzerland between the 10th and 17th October 2026 is your opportunity to do just this!

If you've been to our Chalet before or attended a Helen Storrow Seminar or Juliette Low Seminar at any location. This is your time to revisit and share those memories with others who have experienced the same, relive those wonderful moments you had at Our Chalet.

And if you've never been to Our Chalet? Now is the time to go! Here are just some of the exciting activities you will be doing alongside women from the Movement of all ages:

  • Cable car rides up above 3,000m and lunch in the revolving restaurant at the top.
  • Visit the Adelboden Museum
  • Play Eisstock (similar to curling)
  • Look at the Our Chalet archives and share your story and memories of a previous Our Chalet experience or HSS or JLS at any location.
  • Boat ride on Lake Thun and visit to a castle
  • Visit to Gruyere cheese dairy, the historic village of Gruyere and a Swiss chocolate factory.
  • There are also evening activities led by our international volunteer team and one free day where you can plan your own activities or relax at Our Chalet.

If you're still not sure, it could be your lucky day as there are scholarships available to ensure this trip is accessible to more. For women aged 60+ with at least 20 years participation in Guiding/Scouting, we have Cheryl Watkins scholarships available. These scholarships cover full event fee and assistance with travel may be available, depending on financial need. If you have previously received a Cheryl Watkins scholarship for accommodation only, you can apply to cover the programme and meal costs of this event, and for travel assistance if needed.
