Uganda Girl Guides Association successfully applied for a grant from the Youth Empowerment Fund, which supports young people in leading projects that contribute to the sustainable development of their communities.

Uganda Girl Guides Association’s ‘Empowering Youth for Climate Action’ project was launched in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda, where refugee Girl Guides and youth groups are spearheading solutions to climate challenges.

These young leaders are:

- Promoting clean energy
- Teaching communities to adopt energy-saving stoves
- Organising clean-up drives
- Leading school and community reforestation
- Driving plastic recycling initiatives

Their efforts have already reached over 1,000 households.

The Youth Empowerment Fund is implemented through a partnership between the European Union and the Big Six Youth Organisations under the Global Youth Mobilization (GYM) initiative.

There will be a new round of grant funding available for eligible countries in early 2026. Look out for updates on Campfire and in the 'WAGGGS In Action' newsletter.
