The Urgent Action Fund Africa offers three flexible, rolling grant streams that empower feminist and women’s rights organizations across Africa to seize strategic opportunities, respond to threats, and strengthen movement capacity.
- The Rapid Response Grants enable quick, catalytic action when unexpected events open potential for structural change.
- The Defending the Defenders Grants support women’s human rights defenders or organizations facing immediate risk due to their activism.
- The Advocacy and Alliance Building Grants fund advocacy, campaigns, and network‑building initiatives aimed at shifting policy and strengthening feminist coalitions.
Geographies: Africa (all sub‑regions).
Who can apply: Feminist‑led organizations, women’s rights organizations, collectives or networks based in Africa with a focus on advancing women’s, girls’ and trans rights.
Funding amount:
- Rapid Response: up to USD 12,000
- Defending the Defenders: up to USD 5,000
- Advocacy & Alliance Building: up to USD 20,000
Focus areas: feminist advocacy, rapid response, protection for women’s human rights defenders, network strengthening.
Deadline: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and in multiple languages (English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili).
