Defending Digital Rights and Civic Space Online

The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) has announced a call for proposals to defend digital rights and civic space online. Grants of up to USD $ 23,000 are available.

The ICNL call is looking for projects that defend digital rights and civic space online, particularly around:

  • AI governance
  • Privacy and surveillance
  • Data protection
  • Freedom of expression
  • Access and inclusion online

It specifically prioritises advocacy, capacity-building and research activities that influence laws, policies, regulatory approaches or public decision-making.

The types of activities that may be supported include:

  • Advocacy for stronger protections against technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
  • Youth engagement in national consultations on AI, digital identity or digital transformation policies.
  • Research led by girls and young women on barriers to safe and equitable digital participation.
  • Coalition-building between youth groups, digital rights organisations and policymakers.
  • Advocacy for more inclusive digital access for girls in underserved communities.

Deadline: October 9 2026.
