Lulu attended Getting Ready for World Conference ahead of the WAGGGS World Conference in Cyprus 2023.

Lulu and friends at the event in 2023““What I remember most was the emphasis on understanding roles and responsibilities. The sessions on accountability, decision-making, and ethical leadership really stood out. It was also valuable to connect with other participants.

The event helped me better understand the expectations and responsibilities of my role at the World Conference. It gave me clarity on governance processes, helped me feel more confident contributing to discussions, and allowed me to connect with fellow participants ahead of time.

"For me, it was about building confidence, understanding my voice matters, and feeling part of something bigger. It inspired me to approach governance not just as a responsibility, but as a meaningful opportunity to create positive change.

"One month after the event, I was elected as an official board member of the Kuwaiti Girl Guides Association. Today, I am a leader of my committee in Kuwait, serve as the National Coordinator for Capacity Building within the association, and am one of the youngest candidates for the Arab Region Board. I am now in my second term on the Arab Region Subcommittee for Training and Leadership! I support member organisations by offering and delivering leadership courses, providing them with the training and guidance they need to strengthen collaboration and exchange of expertise.

"Attending the event empowered me to believe that my voice can drive real change in governance.

"To all the young women attending for the first time: Your voice matters. Don’t be afraid to speak up, ask questions, and take up space.

"I would sincerely like to thank the donors whose generosity made this event possible. Your support empowered young women from all around the world to connect, learn, and grow together. Events like this create lifelong networks and inspire the next generation of leaders, and that wouldn’t happen without your investment. Thank you, for believing in our potential and for making this experience a reality.”

Lulu took part in Getting Ready for World Conference, the programme at the heart of our Light the Future campaign. Her story is one of many — and with your support, we can ensure more young women like Lulu are ready to lead at the 2026 World Conference and beyond.
