We are excited to announce the launch of Advocacy for Generation Digital (A4GD), a new curriculum created by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and supported by Norton, a Gen cyber safety brand. This resource is designed to empower girls and young women to become digital superheroes — building the skills, confidence and knowledge to advocate for a safer, more equal digital world, both online and offline. Alongside the curriculum launch, WAGGGS is also opening a new call for grants to support advocacy initiatives at national and local levels.

As digital technologies increasingly shape how we learn, connect and take action, young people are using online spaces to raise their voices and advocate for issues that matter to them. At the same time, challenges such as misinformation, cyberbullying, digital exclusion, censorship and technology-facilitated gender-based violence — including risks linked to Artificial Intelligence (AI) — continue to create barriers to safe participation online.

Advocacy for Generation Digital supports young people to understand these challenges and develop the skills to challenge them. Through non-formal education, participants explore digital rights, participation and leadership, while learning how to engage with decision-makers and use advocacy as a tool for positive change.

The curriculum builds on learning from the Surf Smart 2.0 curriculum and is designed for groups who want to take the next step — moving from safe and responsible online behaviour to youth-led digital advocacy. The curriculum is suitable for young people aged 7+, with flexible pathways for different age groups and contexts across the Movement. Participants are supported to design and lead advocacy projects, influence policies and social attitudes and contribute to creating safer and more inclusive digital communities.

Advocacy for Generation Digital aims to equip a generation of young people to lead change, speak out and take action to create a safer and more inclusive internet for everyone.

The curriculum is currently available in all four official WAGGGS languages (English, Spanish, French and Arabic). If you're unable to download the resource in your required language, please contact [email protected] and the team will be happy to support you.
