“As a lead facilitator at Celebrating Us in Kusafiri 2023 and mentor lead at the Juliette Low Seminar in 2022, I've had the incredible opportunity to lead and collaborate with a team of dedicated volunteers. This journey has not only contributed to the success of impactful leadership events but has also significantly enriched my own skill set.
🚀 Leadership Skills: Leading a diverse group of individuals with unique skills and backgrounds has taught me the value of shared leadership, clear communication, setting expectations, and leading by example. I've learned to inspire and mobilize teams, even during challenging times, and harness our collective talents effectively.
⏰ Time Management: Juggling work, time zones, and volunteers' diverse journeys required me to master time management, prioritising tasks, setting deadlines, and maintaining a structured schedule.
🧩 Problem-Solving: Dealing with unexpected challenges became a daily exercise. I've learned to empathise, seek out information, adapt to changing circumstances, and find creative solutions to overcome obstacles, always maintaining composure under pressure.
🗣 Communication Skills: Effectively conveying outcomes and requirements to volunteers, while also bridging their feedback and concerns, taught me to tailor my communication style to different personalities and circumstances. Everyone's voice matters.
🤝 Teamwork: Fostering a sense of community and collaboration among volunteers was key. Building a strong, cohesive team led to better results and an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
🌐 This opportunity has been remarkable, and I've not only contributed to meaningful leadership events but also developed a versatile skill set. I'm immensely grateful for this experience and look forward to supporting, learning, and impacting other WAGGGS volunteers in their journeys.
