This year, WAGGGS and Siemens Energy launched the Girls for Green Energy pilot project—a bold and playful way to introduce girls aged 8–14 to the world of renewable energy. At its core is Minecraft Education: Planet Rescuers - an online game that lets girls explore energy and sustainability challenges.

But the real magic is happening offline, as Member Organisations across Asia bring the programme to life with hands-on experiments, youth leadership, and lots of laughter.

🌱 Taiwan: Game on for Green Energy!

In Taiwan, the Girl Scouts of Taiwan hosted lively day camps where curiosity and creativity powered every activity. The experience was a true team effort, with Girl Scout leaders and Siemens Energy volunteers working hand-in-hand to guide girls through the Minecraft Education: Planet Rescuers challenges and engaging offline activities.

Before the camp, Siemens Energy volunteers completed a focused training session on safeguarding and the WAGGGS learning method. Equipped with real turbine models and fresh insights, they joined forces with the Girl Scout team to create a safe, dynamic space where girls could explore, experiment, and grow.

For many girls, it was their first time playing Minecraft—but with support from both leaders and peers, they quickly got the hang of it. By the end of the day, they weren’t just playing—they were collaborating, thinking critically, and stepping into the role of future green innovators.

💧 Hong Kong: Build It, Name It, Power It!

In Hong Kong, Girl Guides brought the spirit of sustainability to life in a delightful fusion of technology and creativity. Girls teamed up to tackle Minecraft Education: Planet Rescuers, exploring renewable energy challenges in a digital world—and then took it offline by building their own hydropower prototypes! Each group also got to design their very own "Green Hero".

⚡ Singapore: Peer Leaders Power the Way!

When Girl Guides Singapore introduced Planet Rescuers, many adult leaders quickly found themselves lost in the Minecraft world. Dizzy, disoriented, and unsure how to guide others through the game, they needed a spark. Enter: the girls.

With help from the WAGGGS Meaningful Youth Participation team, both girls and adults were equipped with tools and handbooks to build a safe, brave space for collaboration. Peer leaders began assisting school sessions, explaining gameplay, answering questions, and most importantly, having fun —and soon, the idea of peer leadership became the programme’s superpower. Along the way, they grew as confident communicators and problem-solvers.

“I feel proud and happy to have been given the opportunity to help and support my peers. Seeing them enjoy themselves while playing the game brought me a lot of joy.”

What began as a technical challenge turned into a perfect example of the WAGGGS REAL experience—a learning journey that’s Relevant, Exciting, Accessible, and Learner-led.
