There are five World Centres. What a perfect time to play Bingo, as the game Bingo is based on a five column by five row grid playing card.

This game has information about each World Centre or an experience you can have as a participant at a World Centre.

What you will need

  • Bingo Cards (24 cards printed) – Each card has a column with the name of a World Centre at the top and rows with pictures relating to the World Centre column.
  • Bingo Card Markers – Use what you can find e.g. counters, buttons, beans, paper squares. Each card will require at least 25 markers.
  • A container for the tiles e.g. bowl, basket, box, hat.
  • Bingo Tile Sheets (five sheets, one for each World Centre):
    • Make two copies of each sheet.
    • Cut one sheet into squares (these are the tiles).
    • The other sheet is used to record the tiles that have been drawn.

What to do

Set Up:

  • Pass out the Bingo Cards and Markers – At least one card per person (some may want more) and at least 25 markers per card.
  • Bingo tiles mixed up and placed in the container.
  • Bingo Tile Sheets placed in front of the leader/caller.
  • Instruct players that they need to mark their Bingo card according to exactly what is called.

Playing Bingo:

  • The leader/caller selects a tile from the container of tiles, and announces the tile …
    • World Centre name e.g. Sangam
    • World Centre colour e.g. purple
    • Tile content e.g. map of India, or Namaste
  • The leader/caller places the selected tile on the relevant square of tile sheet in front of them as a record of what was selected and called, and to check against the winning card.
  • Bingo participants place a marker on their Bingo card if they have an exact match.
  • Explain that they must match the World Centre and the tile content.
  • The leader/caller selects another tile from the container of tiles, and continues as above.
  • When a player has filled five touching tiles (column, row, diagonal), they call BINGO!
  • Their Bingo card is checked and if correct, they win the game.

Variations

  • Players may choose to play Blackout Bingo, which is where they must fill all the tiles on their card – this takes longer to play, and should be decided before you begin.
  • As an additional learning opportunity, the leader/caller may invite a question about the tile, or ask the group a question, or share a story.
