Membership Fee Background

Why are membership fees being reviewed again when they were only just approved last year?
Membership fees are being reviewed in 2024 in response to Motion 12 which was adopted at the 38th World Conference.

The Membership Fee Working Group had been reviewing membership fees since 2022 and brought a recommendation to the 38th World Conference in 2023 to increase the standard rate-per-member by 22 per cent as an inflationary uplift (after no inflationary increases had been applied systematically since 2012).

Motion 12 tasked the World Board to “prioritise the work on WAGGGS Strategy Outcome 3 ‘A sustainable WAGGGS’ including a strategic review to inform changes to WAGGGS’s offer and model to ensure WAGGGS is financially sustainable” and to “review the current membership fee model, taking account of WAGGGS’s offer moving forward and the need to ensure financial and operational sustainability”.

The Membership Fee Review Project Steering Group was formed in 2024 to address this Motion and deliver membership fee proposals to the EGM.

Why are membership fees set in Great British Pounds (GBP)?
Currently, the majority of WAGGGS’s costs are in GBP. Whilst this is the case, it remains sensible for membership fees to be set and received in GBP.

However, were this position to change, WAGGGS could suggest a shift to another currency.
