Safeguarding and Capacity Building

Putting Safeguarding First

Safeguarding means creating a safe, supportive environment that protects individuals—especially the girls and young women in our Movement—from harm, abuse, neglect, or exploitation. It’s about preventing risks, promoting well-being, and responding effectively to concerns.

Your gifts to the WAGGGS Giving in 2024, enabled WAGGGS to roll out bespoke safeguarding training across our global team and deliver tailored support and regional training to over 30 National Organisations. With WAGGGS’ guidance, these Organisations are now developing and implementing their own safeguarding policies—building safer spaces for every girl, everywhere.

Offering safe spaces is an essential foundation for quality Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting and through your gifts, WAGGGS has been able to develop a strong safeguarding policy to support this.

“… we know that girls and young women do not always feel safe in places they should. For many, travelling to school, going out in the evening, speaking their mind or even exploring the internet can put them in harm's way. Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting offers a vital community of friendship and opportunities for adventure in a safe environment.”
